During my time at 72andSunny I helped launch the Google Home Hub and its companion user interface. Figuring out how to launch a new product is always a challenge, but it’s a special type of difficult when it has yet to be named, and you don’t know what it looks like. While we knew the basic functionality, we had a little access to the details and were left to make educated guesses throughout much of the process. As a whole, the task was a herculean effort involving an army of people. Our core creative team of 7 wrote and presented over 650 scripts during a 6 month period.

As part of the Google Home Hub launch, we created a keynote film for the live product reveal. The centerpiece was an interview with Isabelle Olsson, Google’s VP of Design for Hardware, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the design philosophy that shaped the product. We crafted a visual narrative to pair with her voice, filming a short piece that brought her words to life and helped the audience connect with the intentionality—and humanity—behind the tech.

Separate from the Home Hub, but as part of the Google Home work, we partnered with Google and Disney to create an elevated storytelling experience within the Google Home family. Using voice recognition, the device would play reactive sound effects in sync with select Golden Books as they were read aloud. To bring the feature to life, we created a launch spot centered on Disney•Pixar’s Coco—a heartfelt introduction to a new kind of storytime, where the lines between the physical book and the smart speaker beautifully blurred.
