Braintree is the digital payments platform owned and operated by PayPal. To connect them with London’s notoriously ad-averse tech crowd, we launched Tour de Tech—a city-wide virtual race featuring 50 of the UK’s most innovative startups. Without ever leaving London, teams competed to “ride” across cities like Leeds, Cambridge, and Newcastle, tracked by a custom-built app that logged their cycling miles in real time.

Outfitted with branded bikes and fueled by a competitive spirit, teams racked up over 50,000 miles while generating live data insights on how tech entrepreneurs move through the city. Daily leaderboards, stage parties, and route-specific OOH kept momentum high. The winning team earned £50K in advertising credits to help grow their business—part of a campaign that ultimately drove £120M in sales leads and cemented Braintree’s role in the ecosystem.

Tour de Tech delivered beyond expectations: over 50,000 miles biked, 229 minutes of average app engagement, and 1M organic impressions. Rider surveys showed a 70% lift in brand consideration, and the campaign generated a staggering £120M in qualified sales leads—proving that when brands meet their audience on their terms, the impact is undeniable.

To help get companies excited about joining Tour de Tech, I created a promotional teaser entirely in Cinema 4D. With no budget for production, I modeled, animated and rendered the full piece myself—then persuaded the agency’s IT team to let me render it on their server stack over a few days. A true startup move for a startup audience.
